Installation Instructions

Editor Installation

The editor and mission are bundled as a standalone zip file. This is the easiest way to get hold of the framework and to start making missions. Simply download the latest released version from the downloads page, and unzip it to a location of your choice. No installer is required and the operating system registry is not touched.

To run the application find AnvilEditor.exe and double click it! Find out more about how to use the editor here.

Framework Installation

The framework is not provided as a standalone file and is normally bundled along with the editor. The second number in the version number indicates which version of the framework is bundled (e.g. version 4.3 is editor version 4, framework version 3).

Updating the Editor

There is currently no clever way to update the editor other than just re-downloading it and copying over the files.

Updating the Framework

As of version 4.3 updates to the Anvil Framework can be automatically downloaded by using the File >> Check for Framework Updates menu option. If an option is available you will have the option to download it (replacing your existing framework version) without reinstalling the editor.

Some versions may require a certain editor version to unlock all the features, these will be flagged by the Anvil Editor.

Creating missions without the editor

To create your own mission without using the editor, simply copy a sample mission. You will need to make changes to the following sections:

  1. class Markers {} in the mission.sqm file. This can be done in the ArmA 3 editor or in a text editor such as Notepad++
  2. The objective_list array in the framework\framework_init.sqf file. Refer to the comments for more information

Sample Mission Installation

Sample missions are provided as a PBO either for download from the website directly or from the Steam Workshop. If you want to edit the mission, then download the zip file and drop it into the missions directory.

For me (Windows 7 and Windows 8.1) this is:

c:/users/<my username>/Documents/ArmA 3/missions
